GM Greenbuild Touchwall

Three screens, three projectors, 4.6 million pixels, hundreds of minutes of video...all helping tell GM's sustainability story at the Greenbuild Conference.
GM had a sustainability story to tell for the Greenbuild conference — and the content to back it up — but they needed a way to put it together and make it compelling to the general public. Obscura Digital asked us to create a multi-touch, drag-and-drop interface that was informative, inspiring, and fun.

Obscura Digital designed and built a custom three-panel, 18′ x 6′ multi-touch wall. We, in turn, made a rich user interface that anyone could use. Our interface was scalable, allowing for many levels of nested content of different types by being graphically extensible and wholly data-driven. Content could be images, video, or even page upon page of text, all flowed into carefully constructed templates for easy reading at very low pixel densities (due to the projection technology).
GM wanted the multi-touch wall to be usable by wheelchair-bound users, so we inverted the standard hierarchy of “general on top, specific below,” and using motion design to maintain context between sections, still achieved a high level of usability for all viewers.
Creating interaction beyond the computer.
From desktop to device, multi-touch to gestural, and portable to permanent, Stimulant creates magical multi-user experiences that bring people together.
